When I’m in the spot brah, I
party like a rockstar!
With the majority of us back to the norm of the 9-5 hustle, I’m sure there are some who may be struggling with keeping energy levels balanced or recovering from their rockstar holiday. Whatever situation you may be in, below are a few recipes taken from my juice and smoothie bible “Squeezed” by Jane Lawson. Prepare to get your energy levels back up and give your kidneys a bit of a detox …You’ll be feeling like a healthy rockstar in no time!
Banana Starter
This recipe will jump start your motor and fill it with energy
2 Bananas, chopped
100 g (3 ½ oz) Frozen blueberries
1 Red apple, cored
300ml (10 ½ fl oz) Apple juice
2 ice cubes
Blend the banana, forzen blueberies, apple, apple juice and ice cubes in a blender until smooth.
Makes 4 small glasses
Kidney Cleanser
Nuff said..
800 g (4 cups) Watermelon, chopped
1 Cucumber, large
3 Apples, stalks removed
250 ml (1 cup) Cranberry Juice
Juice the watermelon, cucumber and apples through a juice extractor or blender. Stir through the cranberry juice.
Makes 2 large glasses
Red Grape and Rockmelon Juice
For those sluggish days..
500g (1 lb 2 oz) Red seedless grapes
1 Rock melon (or any orange-fleshed melon), peeled/seeded/chopped
2cm (3/4inch) piece Ginger
Juice the grapes, melon and ginger through a juice extractor (or blender). Stirlto combine.
Makes 2 medium glasses
Zapple
Vitamin-C rich drink
6 Apples, stalks removed
2 Zucchini (courgette)
3 cm (1 ¼ inch) piece Ginger
Ice Cubes to serve
Juice the apples, zucchini and ginger through juicer or blender. Stir to combine and serve over ice.
Makes 2 large glasses
Regulator
125g (4 ½ oz) pitted prunes
Honey to taste
Ice cubes to serve
Blend prunes with 500 ml (2 cups) cold water in a blender until smooth. Stir through the honey. Strain and serve over ice. Makes 2 small glasses
Banana Date Smoothie
Filled with flavor and minerals
2 Bananas, chopped
50 g (1/3 cup) Fresh dates, pitted, chopped
250g (1 cup) Low-fat natural yogurt
125 ml (½ cup) Skim milk
8 Ice Cubes
Blend the banana, dates, yogurt,milk and ice cubes in a blender until smooth. Makes 2 medium glasses
Almond, Papaya and Date Shake
Smooth and calming..Use your leftovers for a facial!
½ Papaya, peeled, seeded and chopped
4 Fresh dates, pitted and chopped
375 ml (1 ½ cups) almond milk
1 teaspoon Rosewater
Ice Cubes to serve
Blend papaya, dates, almond milk and rosewater in a blender. Serve over ice.Makes 2 medium glasses
